Savoring French Delights at C’est La Vie: A Review

Since C’est La Vie opened in Canton, Georgia last year, I’ve wanted to dine there. Finally, only a couple weeks ago, I got my chance to experience lunch there. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mediterranean French flare the menu and ambiance exude, excellent service, and quality food. I can confidently say that this is one of the better restaurants in Cherokee County.

What We Ordered at C’est La Vie

Just like my previous reviews, we tried to order a wide array of menu items to get a good idea of their menu:

Escargot – Burgundy snails (12 Pieces) baked in the shell with parsley butter

Croque Madame – Oven-toasted sandwich, with ham, Swiss cheese, and bechamel, topped with a fried egg served with our side salad.

Quiche Lorraine – Flaky pie crust, filled with savory egg custard, bacon, cheese, and onions served with our side salad.

The desserts at C’est La Vie don’t have a dedicated spot on the menu but are brought out post-entrée on a dessert tray. We picked the two desserts pictured below, one a coffee mousse dessert with some raspberry sauce and the other a chocolate mousse dessert complete with a hazelnut wafer at the bottom.

What We Had to Drink

Few meals are complete without a proper drink to accompany them. Here’s what we enjoyed, straight from the menu:

French 75 – Citadelle gin, prosecco, and lemon juice.

Espresso Martini – Distillery of Modern Art Atlanta vodka, Mr Black coffee liquor, chilled espresso, creme brulee syrup

Le Napoleon – Double oak Woodford reserve, brown sugar-infused maple syrup, oak wood smoked

My Favorites at C’est La Vie

While the Escargot was excellent, garlicky and herbaceous as a good escargot should be, I might have to pick the Croque Madame for my favorite. A wonderful French comfort food, this eggy, saucy delight was an exceptional choice for a lunch entrée.

For drinks, I thought the French 75 was really refreshing, but I really want to highlight the Espresso Martini. They are quite trendy right now, so I’m sure you’ve probably had one not too long ago. Most places’ espresso martinis are sickly sweet, and the coffee flavor is overshadowed by saccharine, syrupy notes. This is not the case at C’est La Vie. Their bartender deserves quite some praise because their version was perfectly balanced, coffee-forward, and not too sweet. Every drink we tried on the menu was similarly well-balanced.

Some Criticisms

There are really few criticisms to be had at a place like C’est La Vie. The food was excellent overall. The ambiance is upscale but approachable. Our server was attentive, kind, and funny. In fact, he even allowed us to continue dining despite their closure between lunch and dinner. It truly was an excellent lunch.

The only criticism we had was that the side salad that comes with the lunch entrées was a bit basic. It sort of toes the line between a large garnish and a small salad, and should have a bit more seasoning. However, the salad was still enjoyable, and it had very little bearing on our overall dining experience.

Final Verdict

C’est La Vie is one of the best spots for lunch in Canton, if not Cherokee County itself. Look no further for French food in North Georgia, and you are sure to have a good time!
